My Globe.

I thrifted this fab globe a few weeks ago from a charity shop after i'd been on a half day business course. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it as i'd seen nearly every other fab blogger own a globe, but never found my own and suddenly it was staring me in the face. Yay!

As you can see it's also a light, which just added extra achievement to my find. The light fixture was broken though and it burnt a bit of the shrink plastic before I realized, but this evening I taped it up with a bit of white insulation tape since my gluing attemps fail.

I feel happy now :)

Mr. Wick's Candy shop.

Since I have been updating and sorting out my shop I have not been blogging very much and so I forgot to finish off telling you all about my sister's new shop she has opened. I showed you the design and I hope you were excited about it because now Mr. Wick is open for business on Folksy and selling all sorts of fabulously scented candles in vintage tins, glass, teacups etc.

At the moment she has a few for sale that are scented with bubblegum, candy floss and banana. They are so yummy you feel like tasting them and she has been seeking out some of the best vintage tins. She uses a soy wax which is really nice and soft and melts at lower temperature so you can reuse all the vessels as the wax is easy to clean and doesn't leave a smokey mess and also you can use the wax to moisturize your skin. She made some little soy melts which you can use in a oil burner to let off the scent or as a mini, travel moisturizer (that's how we have been using them!).

Here are a selection of her range on sale, but I must warn you that as they are vintage cups and tins they are limited edition and so when they're gone they're gone!

You can find her shop here.

Teddy Tells You...

These are what I got from the local bootsale this morning. I tried not to buy anything but I bought these two vintage books, some dvd's and some fab buttons.

I couldn't resist Teddy so I picked him up for just 50p. It's a bit battered and it has some additional colouring on the illustration (courteous of a a small child I imagine) but I just loved all the little drawings of Teddy. This edition was called "Teddy Tells You...How To Be Safe" so it's full of all little rhymes and poems about crossing the road and playing safe. I think it was published some time after the war in the 50's.

*Sold* Junk jewels

I have all this junk jewellery up for sale if anyone would like it. There are all sorts of things from broken bits and pieces, unfinished pieces, beaded necklaces or simply the odd earrings (including one or two gold) and loose findings. It all weights around 2kg so there is a whole load of stuff. I'll never get around to making anything from these anymore so they'd be better off going to a junk jeweller. They'd be great fun to rummage around in.

There are lots more pictured than those shown, but I couldn't get around to photographing it all and i've put some into little bags. If anyone is interested I would be asking £22 including P&P which will be a fair bit due to the weight. I used to sell 1.5kg of junk jewellery on ebay for over £30 so this is a bargain.

Let me know if you are interested, have any questions or simply pass on the details to anyone you know who might like all these goodies.

You can email me at Laura_figiel(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Thanks!

In the 1950's

It was the sisters birthday today, and in our not very rock 'n' roll style we went to see a small 50's exhibition going on in the Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford. It was really cute, fitted out with bubble gum pink walls. I liked it very much because they had modern artists being featured that worked in a retro style. These jugs at the bottom were an example of that. I loved them. I wished it was my birthday!

More jewellery love by Grainne Morton. These gorgeous pieces are really the way to create items with vintage pieces. I love the cheeky charm and delicious colour palette. These are true works of art.

Show me your shoes - Johanna

Todays shoes are from the ever so vintage young lady Johanna. She has a fabulous wardrobe and here are her shoes.

She says:

These shoes used to belong to my aunt and I think they were bought in the 70s. They're the perfect pair of espadrilles to me, I've never seen a better looking pair. They're actually a tiny bit too big for me, but I can wear them anyway because of the straps. I've been wearing them since I was twelve or something.

I think the age just shows how charming and wearable vintage items are!

Being a Brit.

I bought this vintage hanky at my local antiques shop. It's such a great little shop with lots and lots of unusual things and all for great value considering their antiques. I never usually have the money (or space) for the things I really want from there, (like this huge, tall 1960's lime green glass vase for just £5) but this is what I bought with just £3.

I really like British things, but I do wish there were more reasons to be a proud Briton. This piece of fabric has 4 messages on each part of the red, Faithful to the Flag, Defense not Defiance, Our King & Country and Be Prepared. They just show how patriotic we used to be and I wish I could have been part of it.

I feel that Britain is rather a confused individual, always trying to be someone else, a different country. We are too concerned about taking on other people's cultures that we have destoyed our own, just leaving binge drinking as our national sport. I would like to exclude Scotland from this, because they seem very patriotic and would rather die by the sword than let go of what being Scottish means.

I do think our country is having an identity crisis and it has such little faith in us Britons. I don't think this sets a good example to our young people. How can you be proud of yourself when the society you live in is continuously thriving to be someone else, something better and something different for the sake of being different?

Well I don't want to be different, I am British and I want to be British. I will be interested in my neighbours and I will visit them and lend them sugar, but at the end of the day I just want to be me, the British person I am.

anthropologie

I keep seeing people wearing this everywhere in blog land and I had never heard of anthropologie before I started blogging. Everyone I see wearing it, looks fabulous and I want a piece of the action so I had a look at their site. I think it's from the USA but they seem to post out to the UK and Europe which is great!

Their site is really nice, with a great friendly ambiance. They have a very very vintage feel which I love and their priced range quite a lot from £20 to £100 so I truly believe there is something for everyone. I hope to get something from them soon and so here are my current favourites. I didn't even get started on the shoes, jewellery and homewares!

Jugsulike

On this dull day I thought I would cheer us all up with some pictures of my new jugs. I purchased them all from antique stores recently and just couldn't resist. I always look at jugs the shapes are just fascinating, are they rounded, are they tall do they have a short spout? If i do ever find just a small piece of space I do think I have it in me gradually build a small collection of jugs. I like lots of vintage kitchenalia but there is something about jugs that look so freshing. They have many uses too! Storing any bits and pieces but also a nice vase for your fresh flowers.

This large jug I bought may not look the most attractive to people, but I just love love love the crackled glaze which has just covered the entire surface as if it is ment to be there. I think it is a well used jug but still it bears no chips or scrapes. I do ponder about the family who once used this jug.

The two other jugs are quite mini and I love the pureness of the one of the left, and the one on the right has a eggshell finish will gloss inside. The fine details are the nicest.

I found the jugs at the bottom on ebay. They are glass jugs. I love glass jugs too, especially when they have been handmade. The glass joints look gloopy, like the sugar before it has hardened to make boiled sweets.

So go on, please go and give an old jug a new home.
